Hello All

My fingers are exceptionally sore at the moment. Each joint on my fingers are sticking, swollen and like
a bad toothache/shooting pains up and down.

What can help with this anyone ? I am waiting to go on RTX so am on amitryp, celecoxib , paracetamol,
and tramadol for RA at the moment.

Is this RA or may be something completly different ?

Hi Rose
Sorry can't advise but just want to say sorry you are in such pain with your fingers. Its awful isn't it when we suffer pain that won't seem to go away.
Take care of yourself and I hope things improve for you soon.

I am just wondering if the 'sticking' that you describe is to do with the joints or could it be the tendons. I get trigger fingers caused by tendon inflammation, especially in the mornings after waking, and it causes my fingers to catch when trying to straighten them. You could look this up on-line to see if you think that's what the problem is.
Best wishes from Naomi.

Hi Rose,

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain with your fingers.
You should ring your rheumy nurse, maybe some steroid injections would help. I've had these in my fingers, they are not pleasant to have but well worth it!

hi Rose,

i was also wondering if it's trigger finger .. although not sure about it being in each finger,

i had it in my little finger and every morning it was bent over and very painful to straighten .. i had a steroid injection in it about 3 or 4 years ago before RA and it rectified the problem.

maybe they could do an injection in your hand that works on more than one finger, just a thought.

i think the sooner you can start new treatment the better although i know you are not looking forward to it,

sending best wishes your way,

Suzanne x

For some reason, the consultants seem keen to inject fingers separately. Although it's not pleasant, they certainly make a huge difference.

I have had injs in individual fingers and they worked really well for me. Hope you can get something done soon.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have spoken to RA nurse today and she said the sooner we can get
you on RTX the better. The first thing they give you is steriod so this would help. If it going to be a
while think I will speak with Gp

Thanks though. Naomi - it just as you describe it - exactly.
